Flying training costs
WE mention costs throughout the site, but thought it good to put a summary on one page.

At Microlight Scotland we charge 130 per flying hour for lessons at Strathaven Airfield. There are no charges for pre-flight or post-flight briefings, instruction notes or VAT.

Flying membership of the The Scottish Flying Club is 250 a year. Students must join after their third lesson and can pay 125 for six months. Membership includes all landing fees at Strathaven Airfield, use of the clubhouse and wi-fi etc.

Ground school classes for written exams or radio licences are 25 per hour. Written exam fees are 30 per paper, or 140 for all five. GFT and radio licence fees are by arrangement with the examiner. The current CAA fee to issue your licence is 153.

A typical student taking 35 hours of flight training to prepare for their licence test will spend 4,550 on training, 125 on club membership, 140 on written exams, 153 for the licence application and around 150 for their GFT. That makes a total of 4,978.

Trial lessons are 119 for the One Hour Microlight Experience and 199 for the Extended Microlight Experience.

Long after the cost is forgotten, the reward of gaining your pilot's wings will be treasured.
