NPPL (M): The Costs

WE mention costs throughout the site, but thought it good to put a summary on one page.

At Microlight Scotland we charge £160 per flying hour for weightshift microlight lessons at Strathaven Airfield. There are no charges for pre-flight or post-flight briefings, instruction notes or VAT.

Flying membership of the The Scottish Flying Club is £250 a year. Students must join after their third lesson and can pay £125 for six months. Membership includes all landing fees at Strathaven Airfield, use of the clubhouse and wi-fi etc.

Ground school classes for written exams or radio licences - if required - are £30 per hour. Written exam fees are £30 per paper, or £140 for all five. GFT and radio licence test fees are by arrangement with the examiner. The current BMAA/CAA fee to issue your licence is £151.

A typical student taking 35 hours of flight training to prepare for their licence test will spend £5,600 on training, £125 on club membership, £140 on written exams, £151 for the licence application and around £150 for their GFT. That makes a total of £6,166.

Trial lessons are £119 for the One Hour Microlight Experience and £199 for the Extended Microlight Experience.

Long after the cost is forgotten, the reward of gaining your pilot's wings will be treasured.
